Alcoa Future Leaders of Industry Program
Applications are now open for the 2012 Alcoa Future Leaders of Industry (AFLOI) program.
Are you are Year 9 or 10 student in the Geelong region?
Are you interested in pursuing a professional pathway or trade in advanced technologies, design, innovative manufacturing or engineering?
Do you have an interest in maths & science?
Do you want to explore what manufacturing actually means?
If you answered yes to any of these questions then we encourage you to apply for the 2012 AFLOI program.
This program is sponsored by Alcoa (Point Henry), Geelong Regional Vocational Education Council Inc (GRVEC) and supported by a number of local manufacturing companies. The programme will commence during April 2012 and run through until July 2012.
At the end of the programme, scholarships of $250 each will be offered to some participants who take up a school-based apprenticeship, VET program or subjects that allow them to continue towards a future career in the advanced technology, design, engineering & manufacturing sector (EG VET Engineering, SbAT with a local engineering/manufacturing company etc).
These scholarships will be held in trust by schools and used to support education and/or training endeavours in 2013.
Scholarship recipients will be involved in a number of activities which will enable them to:
* Meet young people who have pursued a career in manufacturing
* Participate in leadership activities
* Develop presentation and communication skills
* Visit industry sites
* Shadow mentors in industry
* Explore university and TAFE options
The programme is designed to be informative and inspirational for participants. It will also convey a strong message to all involved, about the many opportunities in advanced manufacturing.
